The period comprehended by the Middle Ages, considering only the official historiographical delimitation, since there are significant disagreements as to where its beginning or end is, is too long. Within the medieval millennium in the West there was initially a great decentralization and population dispersion, all so that later in its second half the phenomenon of demographic concentration, the city, developed again.(…)

The medieval city remains mixed with the countryside, making itself the space that exerts attraction but also dispersion.
