Overview

In the Conservation of photography online course you will learn how to develop and maintain a preservation program for the photographic collections.

Apart from being an image, a photograph is a palpable object, which occupies a place in space and requires specific attention, through its physical and chemical composition and the weaknesses that this may entail.

◌ Recognise and distinguish the concepts of preservation, conservation and restoration.

◌ Identify and recognise the structure of a photograph (within its different types).

◌ Identify and recognise the most commonly found types of photographs.

◌ Recognise the main factors of common deterioration of photography.

◌ Apply a program destined to control environment and pest infestations.

◌ Recognise the practice of handling procedures and identify the more suitable storage systems for each type of photograph.

◌ Develop and maintain a preservation program for the photographic collection, suited to the types of photographs to which it is destined.

Graduated in Art History (Faculdade de Letras of the University of Porto). Her career led her to work at the Municipal Historical Archive of Porto and the Museum of ISEP, with inventory and conservation of Photographic collections. She wandered around the world of antiquaries and tourism, until becoming a professional trainer/tutor, dedicating herself to the areas of Art History, Iconography and Conservation of Photography. She currently works at the Department of Culture of Porto, within the scope of Heritage. Has several written works / published in the areas of Art History, Iconography and Conservation.

Critical analysis and opportunities for improvement

Although the results obtained are very good, some opportunities for improvement were detected from the comments.

Suggestions for improvement were presented regarding the usability of the platform, especially on mobile devices. The platform has been modernized in order to provide greater ease and comfort in learning.
